Our school was awarded Dare to Believe flag initiative. Organised by The Olympic Federation of Ireland, this initiative taught the pupils about Olympism, Paralympism and the benefits of sport. The aim of the programme is to promote the wider values of sport to children – teachers and students received resource packs with a range of activities and information based on five rings and completed lessons on them — Olympism and Paralympism, Healthy Mind and Body, Joy of Effort and Courage, and Respect, Responsibility and Equality. The final ring was titled ‘Striving for Excellence’ and involves a high-performance athlete or Olympian/Paralympian telling the class about their journey in sport. Thomas Barr, the Irish Olympian for hurdles, visited the school to award the school with our flag. This year, Kellie Harrington has had a zoom meeting with the pupils and has told the pupils about her life story, answered questions in relation to her life and sporting life and encouraged the benefits of sport to them all.
