To celebrate Positive Ageing Week, 20 of our girls and boys visited St Michael's Nursing Home. In recent years a special friendship has developed between the young and the less young in our community. 10 girls joined some of the lady residents to complete some wonderful art and crafts. They chatted and enjoyed each other's company as they worked together to create teapot holders, jewellery boxes and crucifixes. The boys had a super time in the men's shed, working with some of the male residents. From our video on our Facebook Page you can see that they even had a little sing song as they worked. Together they created stools and painted benches, but most of all they just spent time together laughing, singing and chatting. The boys returned to school telling stories, with big smiles on their faces of Tom, the man from Doon, he was "great craic". As a school we want to thank Sharon, the staff and especially the residents of St. Michaels Nursing home, for inviting us into their home. They passed on the knowledge and skills they have learned over the years to our pupils. It was a wonderful day and we feel it contains a valuable lesson for everyone.
